How to Choose the Right Phone: RAM, Storage & 5G Explained

17 August 2026

Confused by all the numbers on a phone box? Here is a simple guide to RAM, storage, and 5G so you can pick the right phone without overpaying.

Walk into any phone shop in Kuwait and you will see the same numbers everywhere: 4GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, 5G, NFC. It is easy to feel like you need an engineering degree just to buy a phone. Here is what actually matters, in plain language. RAM is your phone's short-term memory. It decides how many apps you can keep open at once without everything slowing down. 4GB is fine for calls, WhatsApp, and browsing. 6GB to 8GB handles social media, gaming, and multitasking comfortably. 12GB is for people who want zero slowdown, ever. Storage is where your photos, videos, apps, and downloads live permanently. 64GB fills up fast once you start taking photos and videos regularly. 128GB is a comfortable middle ground for most people. 256GB and up is worth it if you record a lot of video or never like to delete anything. 5G matters less than the marketing suggests. It gives you faster download speeds where the network supports it, but 4G is still perfectly reliable for everyday use across most of Kuwait. If the price difference between a 4G and 5G model is small, go for 5G since it future-proofs your purchase. If it is a big jump, a solid 4G phone is nothing to worry about. A simple rule of thumb: if you mainly call, message, and browse, 4GB+128GB is enough. If you use social media and take a lot of photos, aim for 6GB+128GB or higher. If you game or multitask heavily, look at 8GB+256GB and above. Whatever you choose, buy from a seller who stands behind the product with a real warranty and after-sales support — that matters far more in the long run than an extra gigabyte of RAM.
